Elephants are an integral part of the Mysore Dasara Festival. The elephants form the core of the Mysore Dasara procession on the Vijayadashami day. The lead elephant carries the Golden Howdah (Chinnada Ambari) with the Goddess Chamundeshwari in it. This FRP product of an elephant with a golden ambari is used in Baroda in Gujarat also. They were used in ceremonial processions and were granted to high officials as a mark of royal favor. In this view, the elephant is shown caparisoned in a clot of gold and bears on its back the ambari, a throne or state howdah made of gold which only the largest and strongest elephants could support.
